Glastonbury lovers are split by opinion as the UK’s biggest festival has announced that Kanye West will headline the Saturday night show.
The news was confirmed on Monday evening as Radio1s Annie Mac told the listening audience to which the rapper instantly started trending. Glastonbury fans usually have a dislike towards rappers headlining, not since Jay Z in 2008 has another rapper had the honor.
Jay Z made history by headlining Glastonbury 7 years ago but had an army of critics against the decision including Oasis who were very vocal about their anti-hip hop at Glastonbury opinions. However Jay Z rocked the stage with anthems such as 99 Problems, Hard Knock Life and more played across London Grooves Yager Bar parties, and he even entered the stage singing ‘Wonderwall’ to rock the boat further.
Kanye is the perfect choice to bring hip hop to Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage as his musical catalogue is diverse with classic hip hop albums such as College Dropout, Graduation to My Dark Twisted Beautiful Fantasy, the auto tuned 808s and Heartbreak, and the distortion of Yeezus will make for a great show.
Kanye being the visionary that he is will no doubt have amazing light shows and back drops to his performance plus we can expect surprises with his new love of Grime music, perhaps Skepta and BBK could pop on stage like during the Brits? Who knows but with his current single ‘All Day’ dominating dancefloors and his new song ‘Wolves’ featuring SIA making its rounds, Glastonbury 2015 could witness hip hop history once again.
