Nightclubs Door Staff & Security

Door staff or door supervisors are there to protect people enjoying a night out in pubs and clubs; you’ll find them on the doors of small pubs to big London night clubs. It is very reassuring to know that all security staff must now be licensed under a new regulatory system called the SIA.

Doormen have received a lot of bad press over the years, but without them nightclubs would fail to operate. There are many different aspects to their SIA qualification which they must take in order to gain their licence. Some of the training includes;

  • Introduction to the Role and the Leisure and Security Industries
  • Standards of Behaviour
  • Civil and Criminal Law
  • Searching
  • Arrest
  • Drugs Awareness
  • Recording Incidents and Crime Scene Preservation
  • Licensing Law
  • Equal Opportunities
  • Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Emergency Procedures

The course consists of thirty hours in the classroom and then two hours of exams.
Licensed door staff can only be a good thing; they are well trained and know what to do when problems arise. Although they may seem annoying when asking for ID and turning you away for being too drunk, they are only doing what they have been trained to do and acting in accordance with the licencing regulations set out by the local borough or council.
